Butterlamp Offerings for Chokhor Düchen

$1 = 1 Butterlamp

Chokhor Duchen is one of the Four Great Festivals celebrated in the Tibetan tradition.  Chokhor means “dharma (or prayer) wheel”, and  Düchen means “great occasion”. This special day celebrates the first turning of the wheel of the dharma by Shakyamuni Buddha, when he taught the Four Noble Truths after his enlightenment. On this day it is considered that actions, both meritorious and harmful, are multiplied ten million times.  The offering of butterlamps, known asmar me meaning butter fire, is connected to the aspiration that the light of wisdom will dawn in the minds of all beings.  The light dispels the darkness of ignorance and illuminates the world. These offerings of light can be made for any virtuous reason.  Butterlamps are lit and prayers are offered when we wish to alleviate suffering, honor a special moment, or increase the positive energy of an action or event.

Add a Dedication to Your Offering

Dedications and prayers included with the butterlamps are shared with the sangha and through this connection the blessings increase. If you are dedicating butterlamps on behalf of another person, please consider any privacy concerns or obtain permission on behalf of that person before you share their name/circumstances in a public forum.  Dedications are read aloud or shared on the screen during the live Chokhor Duchen celebration and viewable/accessible in the recording for a public audience via our social media channels.  You are always welcome to offer anonymously or with initials for increased privacy.

If you wish to include a dedication or prayer for your butterlamps, please do so in the NOTE section below, before adding to your cart.
