This extraordinary chöd drum, infused with deep spiritual significance, was played by Lama Tsultrim Allione during the powerful August 2024 Machig Labdrön empowerment ceremony held at the Tara Temple. This sacred moment was a highlight of Tara Mandala’s 30th Anniversary on-site celebration, a historic gathering that drew practitioners from around the world to honor lineage, tradition, and community.
This chöd drum is hand crafted from Bawa wood, or Bhutanese Burl wood which is known for its beauty and light weight. The elaborate process of creating the traditional 'trin pak' or cloud skin is a highly guarded secret passed down from lamas to select drum makers. This technique allows for the skin to breathe and gives a full sound to the drum. The skin of each drum is unique, like a cloud.
